PM Modi meets Brazilian President: Many issues including strengthening strategic partnership discussed

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva held delegation-level talks here on Saturday, in which discussions were held to further strengthen the India-Brazil strategic partnership and expand cooperation in various fields. During the talks held at Hyderabad House, the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, defence, energy and multilateral fora.

During the talks, Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal were present. Earlier, Da Silva was formally welcomed in the courtyard of Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was given a guard of honour. President Draupadi Murmu and PM Modi welcomed him.

President da Silva met Foreign Minister Dr. S. Also met Jaishankar and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. The President of Brazil on Friday inaugurated the first office of Brazil’s Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrazil) in New Delhi. He said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ that the office will help promote Brazilian products and services abroad and attract foreign investment in strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy.

Brazilian Ambassador to India Kenneth da Nobriga underlined the growing rapport between the two leaders, saying it is taking bilateral relations to a historically new level. He said da Silva has brought with him the largest Brazilian delegation ever, which includes more than 11 cabinet ministers, more than 300 businessmen and 50 chief executives.

Da Silva’s visit follows Modi’s visit to Brazil in July 2025, which was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brazil in more than five decades. The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments during a telephone conversation in January and stressed the importance of reforming the multilateral system to address shared global challenges.
