PM Modi pays tribute to more than 860 martyrs of Assam movement, pledges to fulfill the dreams of martyrs

Assam Movement: On the occasion of Martyrs’ Day on December 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid emotional tribute to over 860 martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice during the historic Assam movement between 1979 and 1985. He reiterated his commitment to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the martyrs of the historic Assam movement on the occasion of Martyr’s Day. He started using the social media platform ‘X’ While posting, he wrote that this movement will always hold a special place in the history of the country. PM Modi remembered the bravery of all those who were part of the movement. During this, the Prime Minister talked about ensuring all-round progress of Assam and strengthening the culture of Assam. He said that the government reiterates its commitment to fulfill the dreams of those who took part in the Assam movement.

Assam Movement: Why was the sacrifice made?

Every year on 10 December, Martyr’s Day is celebrated in Assam. Is celebrated as. This day is celebrated to pay tribute to Khargeswar Talukdar and more than 850 brave men of the movement who laid down the life of ‘Mother Assam’ Gave his life for. Khargeswar Talukdar was shot dead on 10 December 1980, and was the first martyr of the Assam Movement.

This movement, which lasted for six years from 1979 to 1985, was against illegal Bangladeshi infiltration. This movement was mainly led by the All Assam Students Union (AASU). A total of 860 people were martyred during this long movement, mostly youth and students.

CM Sarma paid tribute to the martyrs

Soon after the Prime Minister’s post, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his agreement by re-posting it. The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was right in saying that the legacy of the brave martyrs of the Assam movement remains a guide for him. He assured that under the guidance of the PM, they are committed to ensure all-round development of Assam, as envisioned by the martyrs.

Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also paid tribute to Khargeshwar Talukdar and over 850 bravehearts in a separate post on Martyrs’ Day. He said that his love for the motherland will always remain an inspiration.
