PM Modi praises BJP cadre, links victory to Nitin Nabin’s first electoral season

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday praised BJP workers and credited the party’s organisational guidance under newly appointed national president Nitin Nabin after the ruling party’s performance in the assembly elections.

Modi said these were the first assembly elections after Nitin Nabin took over as BJP president, and that the guidance given to every party worker during the campaign proved invaluable in securing the victory. His remarks came as the party marked a strong electoral showing in the current round of state and Union Territory polls.

Nitin Nabin formally assumed charge as BJP national president in January 2026 after being elected unopposed. Reports at the time described him as the youngest BJP chief and said the leadership transition took place with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior party leaders present.

The April 2026 assembly elections were widely seen as the first major organisational test for Nabin after taking over the party’s top post. Coverage ahead of the polls said the contests across Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry would be a key measure of the BJP’s organisational strength under the new president.

Modi’s latest remarks highlight the party’s effort to link the election result with its ground-level mobilisation and central guidance during the campaign. The BJP’s performance in West Bengal, in particular, was described in reports as a major breakthrough and a sign of the party’s expanding reach.

The Prime Minister’s comments also underline the importance the BJP is attaching to its organisational structure after the leadership change earlier this year. As the party looks ahead, the latest victory is being projected as an early endorsement of Nabin’s leadership and the cadre’s campaign strategy.
