Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on social media X, Jai Somnath! Somnath Swabhiman festival is starting from today. A thousand years ago, in January 1026, the Somnath temple faced the first attack in its history. The attack of the year 1026 and the many attacks that followed could not shake our eternal faith. Rather, it further strengthened the feeling of cultural unity of India and Somnath kept being revitalized again and again. I am sharing some photos from my previous visits to Somnath. If you have also been to Somnath, then do share your photos with #SomnathSwabhimanParv.

He further wrote, This occasion of #SomnathSwabhimanParv is a festival to remember those innumerable sons of Mother India, who never compromised with their principles and values. No matter how difficult and frightening the times were, his resolve always remained steadfast. His loyalty towards our civilization and cultural consciousness remained unwavering. This occasion of one thousand years of unwavering faith inspires us to continuously strive for the unity of the nation.

I am also sharing with you some glimpses of a program organized in Somnath on 31 October 2001. This was the year when we celebrated 50 years of the inauguration of the renovated Somnath Temple in 1951. In 1951, that historic ceremony was held in the presence of the then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The efforts of Sardar Patel and KM Munshi ji as well as many great personalities in the reconstruction of Somnath temple have been remarkable. In this program of the year 2001, the then Prime Minister Atal ji, Home Minister Advani ji and many dignitaries participated. In the year 2026, we are also commemorating the completion of 75 years of the grand ceremony held in 1951.
