PM Modi reminded Nehru of his Red Fort speech on LPG shortage and inflation, know what he said during the Korean War?
Amidst the debate over the shortage of LPG in the country due to the ongoing war in the Middle East and the Iran crisis, Prime Minister Modi referred to a historical speech of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Referring to an old statement of Pandit Nehru, PM Modi talked about the impact of global events on the Indian economy.
On the occasion of releasing the amount of Kisan Samman Nidhi in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminded that on August 15, 1951, Pandit Nehru had blamed external reasons like ‘Korean War’ for rising prices and inflation in the country.
Nehru’ssaid bythe matter is gone
Nehru had then said that there are two reasons behind inflation – first, those which are beyond our control (like the Korean War) and second, those which we can control. Like black marketing. PM Modi said, on one hand the BJP NDA government is working for the farmers and we are busy in making the country self-reliant, whereas today the Congress has once again proved that it is not honest towards the country under any circumstances.
What did PM Modi say?
PM Modi said that today, even amidst the crises caused by war, Congress is only engaged in spreading rumors and propaganda. I just want to say something to my Congress colleagues. Do one thing, listen to the speech given by Pandit Nehru ji on 15th August from the Red Fort, you will be surprised to hear it. Pandit ji once said from the Red Fort on 15th August that there is a war going on between North Korea and South Korea. That’s why inflation is increasing in India. Where is North Korea and South Korea now? And here Nehru ji was talking about increasing inflation.
The Congress, which is engaged in spreading rumors amidst the crises created by the war, must also listen to the speech of Pandit Nehru ji from the Red Fort on 15 August, in which he held the war between North Korea and South Korea responsible for inflation. pic.twitter.com/HC0NPpy5Vr

Nehru’s full statement
Addressing the nation on Independence Day in 1951, Nehru had said, constant vigilance is necessary to maintain freedom and one who is not alert cannot survive in today’s harsh and cruel world. Nehru further said, people are facing rising prices, black marketing and other such difficulties. These problems arise due to two reasons – first, the reasons which are beyond our control, like the Korean War and second, the reasons which we can control.
