As the country celebrates the birth centenary of BJP veteran and visionary leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi penned down his thoughts on his significant contribution and efforts in changing lives.
Reflecting on his incredible legacy, he paid tribute to the “politician who shaped India with his vision and determination”. The Prime Minister wrote, “Today, 25th December, is a very special day for all of us. Our country is celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of our beloved former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji. He is revered as a politician who inspired countless people. Use to do it.”
Prime Minister Modi remembered Vajpayee as “the architect of India's 21st century transformation” and recalled the time when he was sworn in as Prime Minister in 1988, which was a period of political instability.
He said, “In almost 9 years we saw 4 Lok Sabha elections. The people of India were becoming impatient and skeptical about governments being able to function. It was Atal ji who resolved this situation by providing stable and effective governance.” Coming from an ordinary background, he realized the transformative power of common citizens and effective governance. Atal ji's leadership had a long-term impact on many areas around us.
He said, “His era marked a giant leap in the world of information technology, telecommunication and communication. This was especially important for a nation like ours, which is also blessed with a very dynamic youth force. The NDA government led by Atal ji made the first serious attempt to make technology accessible to common citizens. Besides, he also showed foresight in connecting India. Even today, most people remember the Golden Quadrilateral Project, which connected the length and breadth of India.
Equally noteworthy were the efforts of the Vajpayee government to enhance local connectivity through initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Similarly, his government promoted metro connectivity by doing extensive work for the Delhi Metro, which emerged as a world-class infrastructure project. “Thus, the Vajpayee government not only promoted economic growth but also brought distant regions closer, thereby promoting unity and integration.”
