PM Modi said in Guwahati – ‘BJP government is correcting the mistakes which Congress had been doing in North-East for decades’

Guwahati20 December. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accused the Congress of ignoring Assam and the Northeast during its rule, saying that the BJP government is correcting the mistakes that the old party had been making in the region for decades. Addressing a rally after inaugurating the new terminal building of Guwahati airport on Saturday, he alleged that the development of Assam and the North-East was never part of the Congress agenda.

Congress gave protection to infiltrators, who grabbed the forest and land

PM Modi said, ‘Congress gave protection to infiltrators who grabbed forests and land, thereby threatening the security and identity of Assam… The BJP government is correcting the mistakes that Congress had been making in the North-East for decades.’

Center is taking strict steps to stop infiltration

The Prime Minister said the Election Commission initiated the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list to keep infiltrators out of the election process, but ‘traitors’ were trying to protect them. He said that the Center is taking strict steps to stop infiltration.

Development is flowing in Assam like the flow of Brahmaputra river.

PM Modi said development in Assam under the BJP’s double engine government is “flowing without stopping”, just like the flow of the mighty Brahmaputra river. He said, ‘My attachment to the land of Assam inspires me, gives me strength for the development of this area. Assam and the entire Northeast is becoming the gateway to India’s development. Every state, every region of the country has an important role in the mission of developed India.

Road show done in Guwahati

On the first day of his two-day visit to Assam, the PM also held a road show in Guwahati on Saturday evening and observed the diverse cultural presentations of the state. The road show started from outside the Arjun Bhogeshwar Barua Sports Complex at Sarusajai on National Highway 27 and ended at the state BJP headquarters near Basistha Chariyali.

Modi, sitting in the front in a black SUV, was seen waving towards the excited crowd gathered on both sides of the road. Slogans of ‘Modi ji zindabad’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ were echoing all around. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sarma, Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita and BJP state president Dilip Saikia participated in the road show in their respective vehicles.

Demonstration of BJP’s strength in the state before assembly elections

The road show was a demonstration of the BJP’s strength in Assam, where assembly elections are due early next year. The event saw a strong presence of BJP workers and volunteers, who worked hard to ensure a grand welcome for the Prime Minister.

Guwahati gets the country’s first airport focused on ‘nature’ theme

Earlier, PM Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at the popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here. It is the ‘country’s first nature-themed airport’, where about 1 crore 31 lakh passengers pass through every year. Rs 1,000 crore has been specifically allocated for Maintenance, Repair and Refurbishment (MRO) facilities in this project. Its cost is Rs 5,000 crore.
