PM Modi said in Lok Sabha – Unexpected challenges before India due to war
New Delhi, 23 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described the situation in Western Asia as worrying. Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Monday on the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the situation faced by India due to it, he said that the government is sensitive, alert and ready for every assistance. The situation in Western Asia is worrying. In the last two-three weeks, S Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri have given necessary information to the House on this subject. This crisis has been going on for more than three weeks now. This is having an adverse effect on the economy of the countries and the lives of the people. Therefore, the world is urging all parties to resolve the crisis as soon as possible. Prime Minister Modi said that the war has created unexpected challenges for India too.
These challenges are economic, national security related and also human. India has extensive trade and relations with war-fighting and war-affected countries. The area where the war is taking place is also an important route for our trade with other countries of the world. Especially this region fulfills a large part of the needs of crude oil and gas. He said that this region is important for us for another reason also. About one crore Indians live and work in Gulf countries. The number of Indian crew members in the commercial ships plying there is also very high. Due to such various reasons, India’s concerns are naturally greater. Therefore, it is necessary that a unanimous and united voice regarding this crisis goes to the world from the Parliament of India.
PM Modi said that ever since the war started, necessary help is being provided to every Indian. I myself have had two rounds of phone talks with the heads of state of the countries of West Asia. Everyone has assured the safety of Indians. Unfortunately some people have tragically died and some have been injured. In such difficult circumstances, necessary help is being provided to the affected families. Better treatment is being ensured for those who are injured.
He said that all our missions in the affected countries are continuously engaged in helping Indians. Be it Indians working there or tourists, all possible help is being provided to all. Our missions are issuing advisories regularly. Here in India and other affected countries, 24-hour control rooms and emergency helplines have been issued. Immediate information is being given to all Indians.
The Prime Minister said that in times of crisis, the safety of Indians has been our biggest priority. Since the start of the war, more than 3.72 lakh Indians have returned safely to India. One thousand Indians have returned safely from Iran. Of these, more than 700 are youth studying medicine. Thousands of students study in Indian schools in the Gulf countries. CBSE has canceled the Class 10th and 12th examinations to be held in all such Indian schools. CBSE is taking appropriate steps to ensure that students continue their studies.
