New Delhi, 30 December. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with leading economists and experts of the country at NITI Aayog on Tuesday. The main objective of the deliberations, held ahead of the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27, was to formulate a concrete strategy to maintain India’s long-term economic growth. During the meeting, PM Modi made it clear that to achieve the goal of ‘Developed India’ by 2047, it is now necessary to improve ‘mission mode’ in various sectors.

The main theme of this meeting organized at NITI Aayog was ‘Self-reliance and Structural Transformation: Agenda for Developed India’. During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that the resolve for a developed India is no longer limited to mere government policy, but has become a ‘people’s aspiration’ of 140 crore Indians. He said, ‘The country’s policy-making and budget process should always be linked to the vision of 2047. We need to move rapidly towards developing world-class capabilities and deeper integration with global markets.

The experts present in the meeting discussed various policy changes and their positive impacts during the year 2025. It is noteworthy that the year 2025 has seen major reforms like change in GST slab, implementation of Income Tax Act 2025 and 100% FDI in the insurance sector.
PM Modi stressed the need to make India an important hub for the global workforce and international markets. Economists gave strategic suggestions to increase productivity in manufacturing and service sectors and ensure global competitiveness. Discussions were held on strengthening the economic structure through increasing domestic savings and investment in infrastructure.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was also present in the meeting.
This meeting, held in the presence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, is being considered to decide the direction of the budget to be presented on February 1, 2026. NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Berry and CEO BVR Subramaniam and other senior officials also participated in this brainstorming.
