PM Modi said in the plenary session of India AI Impact Summit – Proper use of AI will become an opportunity for humanity.
New Delhi, 19 February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in the plenary session of the leaders during the ongoing India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam here that this summit organized in India will play an important role in building a human-centric and sensitive global AI ecosystem. He said that history is witness that humanity has converted every major change into an opportunity and now such an opportunity is present in front of the world in the form of AI.
PM Modi said that India is the land of Lord Buddha and right decisions are possible only with right understanding. He stressed that the real impact of AI will be seen only when the right decisions are taken at the right time with the right intention.
Mention of the role of technology in the Covid period
He said that during the Covid global pandemic, the world saw that even the impossible can become possible with cooperation. From vaccine development to supply chain management and data sharing, technology served humanity. India’s digital vaccination platform and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) helped crores of people during the crisis and played an important role in reducing the digital divide.
Emphasis on inclusive AI and Global South
The Prime Minister said that AI technology should be accessible to everyone. He said it is essential to place the aspirations and priorities of the Global South at the center of AI governance, so that technological progress promotes global equity.
Three suggestions for ethical AI
PM Modi gave three major suggestions for the ethical use of AI. First, develop a trustworthy global data framework while respecting data sovereignty. Second, AI platforms should keep their security rules transparent and adopt a ‘glass box’ approach rather than a ‘black box’ approach. Third, AI should be governed by clear human values and guidelines, so that the technology remains under human control.

India’s AI capabilities and infrastructure
He said that India is playing an important role in the global journey of AI. Under India’s AI mission, 38,000 GPUs have been installed in the country and 24,000 more will be added in the next six months. Also, world-class computing power is being provided to startups at affordable rates. Thousands of data sets and hundreds of AI models have also been shared as a national resource.
Appeal of technological development along with human values
Prime Minister Modi said that AI is a shared resource for the betterment of humanity. He called on the global community to create an AI future that fosters innovation, strengthens inclusion and is based on human values. He said that when technology and human trust move forward together, the real impact of AI will be revealed to the world.
