PM Modi spoke to Iranian President Masood, expressed concern about regional security and shipping routes.

New Delhi, 21 March. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and greeted him on the occasion of Eid and Nowruz. Along with this, PM Modi also discussed the changing situation in West Asia with Masood.

PM Modi said in an ex-post, ‘I spoke to President Dr. Masoud Pejeshkian and wished him Happy Eid and Navroz. We expressed hope that this festive season will bring peace, stability and prosperity to West Asia.

During talks with the Iranian President, the Prime Minister expressed concern over the recent attacks targeting critical infrastructure in the region. He said he “condemns the attacks on critical infrastructure in the region, which threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains.”

PM Modi also stressed the need to ensure uninterrupted flow of global trade. He said he reiterated the importance of protecting freedom of navigation and ensuring that shipping lanes remain open and safe. It is noteworthy that this is the second telephonic conversation between PM Modi and the Iranian President since the fighting started in West Asia on February 28.

Earlier this month, PM Modi had said that he had spoken to Pejeshkian on the ‘dire situation in the area’, during which he expressed deep concern over the escalating tension and loss of civilian lives as well as damage to civilian infrastructure.

PM Modi also raised the issue of safety and security of Indian citizens, and also stressed the need for ‘unimpeded movement of goods and energy’. He said these remain India’s ‘top priorities’.
