PM Modi spoke to Iranian President Masood Pezeshkian, expressed concern over increasing tension and death of civilians.

New Delhi, March 12. Amidst increasing tension in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on phone with Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian on Thursday. Due to this increasing tension, concerns have increased regarding the loss of life and property of common citizens, regional stability and security of Indian citizens.

‘Security priority of Indians’, we are for peace

This was the first direct talk between PM Modi and the Iranian President amid the Israel-US vs Iran war. After talking to Pejeshkian, PM Modi said that the safety of Indian citizens, uninterrupted supply of goods and energy is India’s top priority.

PM Modi said, ‘The serious situation in the region was discussed with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pejeshkian. Expressed deep concern over the increasing tension in the area, civilian deaths and damage to civilian infrastructure. The safety of Indian citizens, uninterrupted movement of goods and energy are India’s top priorities. Meanwhile, reiterated India’s commitment towards peace and stability and urged to find a solution through dialogue and diplomacy.

It is noteworthy that this conversation between the two leaders took place at a time when Iran has almost closed the Strait of Hormuz. It is a very strategically important sea route, through which about one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and natural gas is supplied.

Along with this blockade, Iran’s attacks on the oil installations of Gulf countries and the actions of America and Israel in Iran have severely affected the oil supply globally. Due to this, there is a huge shortage of oil across the world and a sharp rise in crude oil prices.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had talked to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi regarding the current situation. After this, information was received that Iran has given permission for safe movement of Indian oil tankers from Hormuz.

According to Bloomberg report, the Indian government is in talks with Iran to ensure permission for about 20 oil and gas tankers to pass through this important sea route connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.
