PM Modi will give statement on Middle East war in Lok Sabha today, likely to clarify India’s stand amid global tension
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make a statement in the Lok Sabha today at 2 pm amid the ongoing conflict between Iran, Israel and America in West Asia. The statement may focus on the regional situation, energy security, safety of Indian citizens and impacts on India’s economy.
This statement assumes special importance in the current session of Parliament because the opposition has raised questions about the government’s foreign policy and stance on war. This situation is also sensitive for India because millions of Indians work in Middle East countries and a large part of the country’s energy needs come from this region.
PM Modi will give statement in Lok Sabha
PM Modi will give an important statement on the situation in the Middle East in the Lok Sabha today at 2 pm. The ongoing war between Iran, Israel and the United States has now escalated into a wider regional crisis and its effects are being felt around the world. India, being the world’s leading oil importer, is directly affected by this conflict. Most of the crude in the country comes from the Middle East, due to which there is a rise in oil and gas prices.
Let us tell you that on February 28 this year, large-scale air strikes on Iran started by America and Israel. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in this attack. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks on Israel, American bases and Gulf countries. The war is now in its fourth week and due to this, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has been significantly affected.
Government’s eye on global situation
According to the government, the situation is being closely monitored. On Sunday, PM Modi took a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in which detailed discussions were held on the supply of petroleum, crude, gas, electricity, fertilizers and logistics. Clear instructions were given in the meeting that energy supply should not be disrupted. During this period, PM Modi also spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, UAE and other leaders. He condemned attacks on critical infrastructure, stressed the protection of civilians and appealed for peace through dialogue-diplomacy.
