PM Modi’s announcement: After removing Lutyens’ statue from Rashtrapati Bhavan, this statue will now be installed.
New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made an important announcement regarding Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, 22 February. He informed that the statue of British architect Edwin Lutyens will now be removed from Rashtrapati Bhavan and replaced by the statue of the first Indian Governor-General of India, C. Rajagopalachari.
Priority to Indian culture
Prime Minister Modi said that even after independence, statues of British administrators remained in Rashtrapati Bhavan, while the country’s own great leaders did not get due respect. Now this step has been taken in the direction of giving importance to India’s culture and symbols of independence.
Rajaji Utsav and Statue Unveiling
Rajagopalachari’s statue will be unveiled on February 23 on the occasion of ‘Rajaji Utsav’. The Prime Minister said that Rajaji considered power as a medium of service and his life was exemplary. An exhibition based on Rajaji will also be organized during this festival from 24th February to 1st March.
Lutyens’ contribution and legacy
Let us tell you that Edwin Lutyens designed many important buildings in New Delhi, which include Rashtrapati Bhavan, North and South Block and India Gate. Because of his contribution this area of New Delhi is called ‘Lutyens’ Delhi’.
With this step of Prime Minister Modi, the symbols of Rashtrapati Bhavan will now more accurately reflect the history of the country’s pride and independence. During the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the statue of British architect Edwin Lutyens should be removed from Rashtrapati Bhavan.
