PM Modi’s big gift: Free treatment for those injured in road accidents

New Delhi. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced big relief for road accident victims. This scheme was one of the main decisions taken after assuming charge in the new premises of the Prime Minister’s Office. Its objective is clear to prevent deaths due to delay in treatment after the accident.

What is ‘PM-Relief’ scheme?

The government has implemented a new system called ‘PM-Rahaat’ for people injured in road accidents. Under this scheme, any person injured in a road accident will get cashless treatment up to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh as soon as he is admitted to the hospital.

The biggest thing is that the victim or his family will not need to deposit the money first. There will be no requirement of insurance policy nor requirement of income certificate. The only priority is immediate treatment and survival.

Treatment time frame and rules

As per the guidelines of the scheme, if the patient’s condition is normal then he will be given stabilization treatment for 24 hours. At the same time, in serious cases where life is in danger, emergency treatment for up to 48 hours will be provided.

The government will directly bear the cost of treatment and the respective hospitals will receive payment through the digital claim process. However, this facility will currently be available only in those hospitals which are included in the panel of the scheme. Treatment coverage will be limited to a maximum of seven days.

Why was this step necessary?

A large number of road accidents occur every year in the country. In many cases, delay in starting treatment occurs only due to financial reasons or formalities. This new initiative has brought relief to those families whose members go on the streets to earn their living.

The government claims that this scheme has been made keeping in mind the importance of ‘Golden Hour’, so that treatment can be provided without interruption in the initial time after the accident. Policy experts believe that if the scheme is implemented effectively, it can bring a big change in the field of road safety.
