PM Modi’s mega road show in Thrissur: South Indian look in open jeep caught the attention of the crowd

Thrissur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a road show here on Sunday as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) campaign for the Kerala Assembly elections, in which the event turned into a vibrant cultural program as thousands of people gathered. The road show started from near the District Hospital at Swaraj Square and ended near Bini Heritage Hotel, covering a distance of about 900 meters through the heart of the city.

This massive road-show transformed the cultural capital of Kerala (Thrissur) into a sea of party flags, excited supporters and curious spectators. According to estimates from party sources, around 50,000 people were present. Braving the scorching heat of the evening, people had gathered hours in advance on both sides of the route earmarked for the road show, waving, raising slogans and recording the moments on their mobile phones as the Prime Minister was greeted by his decorated open vehicle.

Prominent NDA candidates from Thrissur district, including Padmaja Venugopal and K.K. Anish Kumar, participated in the road show with the Prime Minister. Union Minister Suresh Gopi, who represents Thrissur constituency in the Lok Sabha, was also present in the open vehicle with Modi. Dressed in traditional attire and a saffron cap, the Prime Minister waved to the cheering crowd as they showered him with flowers. A large number of women and children were also among the spectators, waiting for hours on the roadside to catch a glimpse of Modi.

The road show route looked like a walking cultural procession with artistes showcasing various traditional art forms including the Kummatti Kali folk dance, the famous Pulikali dance with dancers painted in tiger colours, the classical grandeur of Margamkali and Kathakali, the traditional art form of Syrian Christianity. These performances, organized on specially made stages on the roadside amid the crowd, created a festive atmosphere, which was greatly appreciated by the audience.

Earlier, Modi reached Kuttanelloor helipad, where he was welcomed by senior BJP-NDA leaders. Later, they went by road to the starting point of the roadshow. He had come to Thrissur after attending a public meeting in neighboring Palakkad district. Before the assembly elections to be held in the state on April 9, the alliance is trying to strengthen its hold through vigorous political campaigning and local cultural contacts.
