PM Modi’s tour of 3 countries begins, will hold talks with King Abdullah II in Jordan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amman, Jordan on December 15, 2025, marking the beginning of his three-nation tour, which also includes Ethiopia and Oman. In a special move, Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan warmly welcomed him at the airport.

This is Modi’s first fully bilateral visit to Jordan, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries established in 1950. The visit aims to further strengthen ties based on ancient civilizational ties and strong contemporary cooperation.

Modi will hold detailed talks with King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein to review the entire scope of bilateral relations including political, economic, defense and people-to-people ties, as well as exchange views on regional issues. He will also meet Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, address an India-Jordan Business Forum, and interact with the vibrant Indian community of over 17,500 members.

India and Jordan enjoy warm relations based on mutual trust. Bilateral trade is worth about $2.8 billion, with Jordan being a major supplier of phosphate and potash to India’s fertilizers. Notable collaborations include the Jordan India Fertilizer Company (JIFCO), a major joint venture. Recent improvements include direct flights between Amman and Mumbai, and there are also plans for New Delhi.

The leaders have also maintained close contacts following the tragic Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, where King Abdullah condemned terrorism and reiterated support for India’s counter-terrorism efforts through initiatives such as the Aqaba Process.

This historic visit, the first independent bilateral visit in nearly 40 years (following a 2018 transit stop), highlights opportunities for deeper cooperation in trade, investment, security and regional stability.
