6 thousand crore rupees for madrassas

The PM sought votes for BJP candidates on all seats in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri districts. He said that there is immense potential for development in these areas, but the TMC government has ignored them. PM Modi alleged that the TMC government spent Rs 6,000 crore for madrassas, but did not do any concrete work for the development of the general public. He said the people of the state have seen “misgovernance” in the past years and now TMC will have to give account of its 15-year rule. During the meeting, the PM, while referring to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), said that people have been given rights and protection through this law. Raising the slogan “Feed the lotus, drive away the infiltrators”, he targeted TMC and termed it a “ruthless government”.

Promises for tea garden workers

PM Modi also raised the issue of tea garden workers. He said the BJP government in neighboring Assam has worked for the education, health and employment of workers’ children and has given land pattas. He assured that land rights will be given to labor families in Bengal also. Earlier on Saturday, the PM addressed three big rallies in Katwa, Jangipur and Kushmandi. After the day’s programs he reached Siliguri, where he also conducted a grand road show. BJP currently holds all the 5 seats in Darjeeling district, where Gorkha identity politics remains dominant. Out of the 7 seats in Jalpaiguri district, there are TMC MLAs on 4 and BJP MLAs on 3. Here Rajbanshi and Tribal (ST) communities play an important role in the election results.
