PMO to organize ‘Japan Business Week’ for Japanese investors: PM Modi

New Delhi, 2 July. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum on Thursday night, called for taking the business relations between the two countries to new heights. He said that the economic partnership between India and Japan is based on trust, strategic synergy and clear vision. He set a target to take investment from Japanese companies in India beyond 10 trillion yen in the next 10 years and to double the number of Japanese companies in India.

Appreciation of India-Japan economic partnership

Prime Minister Modi said that the relations between India and Japan are very special and there are many successful examples of economic partnership between the two countries. Referring to the inauguration of Maruti Suzuki’s new plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana, he said that today two-thirds of Suzuki cars in the world are being manufactured in India and they are being exported to more than 100 countries. He also said that motorcycles of Kawasaki, Yamaha and Honda are also being manufactured in India and exported to many countries of the world.

India is the most attractive investment destination

PM Modi said that despite challenges like global supply chain disruptions, trade uncertainties and lack of demand, India remains the fastest growing major economy in the world. He said that India’s GDP growth rate in the last financial year was 7.7%. He said that in the last 12 years, the government has made comprehensive reforms in the field of tax system, good governance and ease of doing business by adopting the concept of ‘Kaizen’ i.e. continuous improvement. He said that India has remained the most promising investment destination for Japanese businesses in the survey of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for four consecutive years.

PMO will organize ‘Japan Business Week’

Prime Minister Modi announced that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) will specially organize ‘Japan Business Week’. During this, senior PMO officials will meet with representatives of Japanese industry, listen to their problems and discuss measures to further improve the ease of doing business.

AI, Cooperation will increase in defense and health sectors

He said that he and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have agreed to increase cooperation in many important areas including economic security, artificial intelligence (AI), defense and health. He said that there is strategic coordination, trust and clarity between the governments of the two countries, which the industry now needs to translate into concrete results.

Shared vision from semiconductor to clean energy

The Prime Minister said he envisions a future where Japan’s technology and India’s market potential combine to provide the world with strong supply chains in the fields of semiconductors, pharma and critical minerals. He said that Japan’s capital and India’s ambition together can establish global leadership in shipbuilding, mobility and clean energy. Also, startups from India and Japan can develop next generation solutions in the field of AI, quantum technology and biotech and aerospace and defense cooperation will give new strength to global security.

Partnership will pave the way for global well-being

PM Modi said that India and Japan should move forward with confidence and optimism, paving the way for shared development and global well-being. Referring to Toyota’s famous message ‘Let’s Go Places’, he called upon the industry of both the countries to take the partnership to new heights.
