New Delhi, 24 February. Delhi Police has also registered rioting charges against Indian Youth Congress members arrested in connection with their shirtless protest during the AI ​​Impact Summit here last week.

In this case, eight members of the organization including All India Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib have been arrested so far. In these, Delhi Police has termed Chib as the ‘main conspirator’ of the protest.

Police made these allegations

Chib’s arrest memo names him as the main conspirator and mastermind of the unlawful assembly at Bharat Mandapam, where protesters raised ‘anti-national slogans’ and tried to create a ‘riot-like situation’. A Delhi court sent Chib to four days’ police custody. The police have added sections 191(1) (rioting) and 192 (intentional provocation with intent to cause riot – if riot is committed, if not) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS) in the case.

Delhi Police in touch with police of other states

Devesh Chandra Srivastava said that during the investigation, several persons were seen in the CCTV camera footage of the venue and surrounding areas. The Special Commissioner of Police said, ‘Involvement of several other persons has also been detected, who were allegedly assisting the aggressive elements in various ways in carrying out this act.’ He said that constant coordination is being maintained with police officers of other states and raids are being conducted to expose the entire conspiracy.

Case transferred to crime branch

Srivastava said, “During the investigation, sections 191(1) and 192 of the BNS have also been added. Based on the investigation so far, it has emerged that the crime was committed as part of a deep-rooted conspiracy, and sufficient evidence has been obtained in this regard.” Keeping in view the multi-state background of the case, the underlying financial and logistical networks among the accused and the need for a comprehensive investigation of the case, further investigation has been transferred to the inter-state cell of the crime branch, he said.
