Policy of return of land after mining in Australia too, High Commissioner gave information in meeting with Hemant Soren, discussion on increasing cooperation
Ranchi: Australia’s High Commissioner to India Philip Green OAM, who was on Jharkhand tour with Chief Minister Hemant Soren and MLA Kalpana Soren, met the delegation. In this courtesy call held at the Chief Minister’s Residential Office, further strengthening of mutual relations between Jharkhand and Australia, increasing mutual cooperation in various fields and investment possibilities were discussed in detail.
On this occasion, the Australian delegation also included Professor Susan Marks (International Law), Tom Sanderford (First Secretary) and Anagha (Senior Economic Research Officer, Australia Consulate-General, Kolkata). The delegation also extended a formal invitation to the Chief Minister to visit Australia.
Jharkhand from labor based to knowledge based economy
The Chief Minister informed the Australian High Commissioner about the natural resources available in Jharkhand, industrial potential and the policies of the state government to encourage investment. They also discussed their resolve to move the state from a labor-based economy to a knowledge-based economy, to which the Australian side gave positive assurances for cooperation and partnership.

Special dialogue on mine safety and tribal development
High Commissioner Philip Green said that there are many similarities between Jharkhand and Australia in the field of mining. He informed the Chief Minister about the modern mine safety techniques and safe mining processes being adopted in Australia. Praising the Australian Government’s policy of redeveloping the land after mining and returning it to the local community, the Chief Minister said that a similar responsible and people-friendly policy should be adopted in the mining sector.
The Chief Minister also said that such policies exist in the state, but there is a need to ensure proper adherence to them by the public sector undertakings. During this, the Australian Government’s policies regarding protecting the interests of local people in mining and mine safety were described as exemplary.
The High Commissioner also mentioned that Australia also has a large population of tribal communities and shared information about the efforts being made for their socio-economic development. Possibilities of cooperation between the two sides on this subject were also discussed.
