Political storm on Vasundhara Raje’s statement, Madan Rathod gave a befitting reply in typical style
Jaipur. Once again the stir regarding rhetoric has intensified in the politics of Rajasthan. On the recent statement of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, BJP State President Madan Rathod gave a sharp reaction through a Rajasthani proverb, which has started a new discussion in the political circles and created a stir in the inner circles of the party. In fact, at a public meeting in Jhalawar on the occasion of BJP Foundation Day on April 6, Vasundhara Raje said smilingly, “People tell me that my work is not done, get it done… but brother, I can’t fight anymore. When mine is gone and I couldn’t save myself, what can I do for you.”
This statement was seen by many as Vasundhara Raje’s pain and dissatisfaction over not getting the CM post. She further said that after hearing the complaints of some people, she replied that her own land was also lost for the road in Dholpur, but she could not save that too. Raje said that this statement was not a matter of position, but of sharing personal experience while interacting with the common people. However, this statement was made publicly at a public meeting and not in a private conversation.
After the statement went viral, Vasundhara Raje had to give clarification. He said that some conspirators are distorting his statement in a wrong way. Raje clarified that she did not mean the position, but gave her example to make people understand how she could change the rules for others when she could not protect her own land or interests. She said, “Mine is gone, I couldn’t save myself.” Raje also added that people’s love is the biggest position and some people are trying to give it a political colour.
On the other hand, on this statement, BJP State President Madan Rathod responded sharply, but in a typical Rajasthani style. When during his visit to Bikaner he was asked questions about Vasundhara Raje’s statement and her lack of work, Rathore resorted to an old Rajasthani (Marwari) proverb.
He said, “Chitthi chur-choor kare, mange daal aur ghee, Modi su kun jhagdo kare, chitthi khani naal.” This means that even dry roti (chithi) should be crushed and eaten with pleasure after adding lots of pulses and ghee to it. That is, whatever we have got, we should make it good and enjoy it. Here ‘Chithi’ means bread, while ‘Modi’ means the grain shopkeeper or the source from which grains are obtained and the household runs. The essence of this proverb is that why should we pick a fight with the one who provides our sustenance? If you quarrel with him, then with whom will you eat bread?
Madan Rathod has given clear and subtle advice to Vasundhara Raje through this proverb. The message is that one should be satisfied with whatever has been achieved in the party or the current situation, work should be done to improve it and unnecessary fights should be avoided. Rathod also said that all the work of Vasundhara Raje is being done and even today she is an important leader of the party. He also indicated that it is not necessary to get the post of CM every time.
Vasundhara Raje seems to be dissatisfied with her role and influence in the party for a long time. The statement given by his son Dushyant Singh during the Jan Samvad Yatra gave public expression to this dissatisfaction. Madan Rathod, who has recently become the state president, is emphasizing on party discipline and unity. This incident is also important in the politics of Rajasthan because BJP is busy preparing for the 2028 assembly elections. In such a situation, small statements and answers among the leaders may raise questions on the unity of the party. Vasundhara Raje clarified that she was communicating directly with the people and her intention was not to hurt anyone.
