Political turmoil over delimitation bill, Congress announces protest in Parliament
Knews Desk- Before the monsoon session of Parliament, the political atmosphere has become heated regarding the delimitation bill. Congress has made it clear that it will oppose the delimitation bill in Parliament. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a press conference on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is wrongly trying to garner two-thirds majority. He claimed that the opposition alliance ‘India Bloc’ will together oppose this issue.
Jairam Ramesh said that Congress will support giving one-third reservation to women only on the basis of existing number of seats. He alleged that the government was trying to take political advantage through delimitation. After discussing this issue in the Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, the party made its stand clear. The Congress leader said that BJP does not have two-thirds majority in the Lok Sabha and it is adopting strategies to achieve it. He claimed that the opposition is united on this issue and talks are going on with all allies.
Jairam Ramesh said that despite many changes and political developments in the Lok Sabha, BJP does not have two-third majority. He also targeted the central government on many other issues. Congress talked about raising issues like donations, paper leak, ethanol policy and foreign policy in Parliament. Congress also informed about contacting other opposition parties on the issue of delimitation. Jairam Ramesh said that the issue is being discussed with DMK, Aam Aadmi Party and other parties of India Bloc. He also rejected the reports in the media about two-third majority and said that the government is far away from this number.
Targeting the NDA government, he also reiterated his demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Jairam Ramesh said that the opposition will seek answers from the government on issues related to education. Congress also said that it will continue its protest on the issue of One Nation, One Election. The party called it against the spirit of the Constitution and said that its stand will not change even after the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report comes.
It is noteworthy that the monsoon session of Parliament is likely to start from July 20, which may continue till August 13. A meeting of the opposition alliance India Block is proposed before the session, while the central government has also called an all-party meeting. In such a situation, there can be a strong confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition in the Parliament on many issues including the Delimitation Bill.
