Political turmoil over Tamil film ‘Jana Nayakan’, Rahul Gandhi accuses Center

New Delhi: The central government’s move to allegedly block or stop the Tamil film Jana Nayakan has created a stir in the country’s politics. The opposition and the government have come face to face on this issue. Congress leader and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has accused the Information and Broadcasting Ministry of attacking Tamil culture. He warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the voice of the Tamil community cannot be suppressed.

Rahul Gandhi’s sharp attack

Rahul Gandhi reacted to this matter on social media platform X on Tuesday. He directly attacked the Central Government and wrote that the attempt to stop Jan Nayakan is an attack on Tamil culture and freedom of expression. Rahul Gandhi said that no matter how many efforts Prime Minister Modi makes, the voice of the Tamil people cannot be silenced. After his statement, the controversy deepened and opposition parties also started raising questions on the intentions of the Centre.

Questions raised on the approval of the film

The controversy surrounding Jan Nayakan came to light when it was reported that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had taken steps to stop or cancel the approval of the film. However, till now no official statement or clear reason for objection has come to light from the government. According to sources, the ministry had reservations about the film’s content, certification criteria and political overtones. It is believed that some scenes and plots shown in the film match contemporary politics and governance system, on which questions were raised.

Censorship allegations and Centre’s stand

Opposition leaders and people associated with the film industry have termed this move as censorship. He says that regulatory bodies are being used to suppress the voice of dissent. At the same time, the Central Government’s stand is that any decision related to Jan Nayakan has been taken under the Cinematograph Act and established certification guidelines. However, till now there has been no direct response from the government on this controversy, due to which the political debate is becoming more intense.
