Friends, in an important political development following the ongoing controversy in West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) party, Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) founder Humayun Kabir has offered his Rejinagar assembly seat to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to help her make a comeback in the West Bengal Assembly. This offering has attracted a lot of attention
Humayun Kabir offered Rejinagar seat to Mamata Banerjee
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Humayun Kabir said that he is ready to resign from Rezinagar assembly seat in Murshidabad district if Mamata Banerjee wants to contest from this seat.
Kabir explained that his resignation would lead to by-elections, which would give Mamata Banerjee an opportunity to return to the assembly. As per election rules, a candidate elected from multiple seats ultimately has to vacate one of them.
Kabir said, “I can help Mamata Banerjee return to the Assembly through Rejinagar. If she contests from Nandigram, she will not win. But if she wants to contest from my seat, I am ready to resign and ensure her victory.”
The AJUP leader had won both Nawada and Rejinagar assembly seats and currently he will have to give up one of these seats.
Political importance of this offer
This proposal of Kabir has come at an important time for Mamata Banerjee and TMC. The ruling party is grappling with electoral setbacks, internal divisions and growing discontent among party members, increasing political pressure on the leadership.
In this backdrop, the support given by Humayun Kabir has sparked wide discussion in political circles, especially considering his recent political journey.
