Municipal Elections in Telangana began on a peaceful note
Hyderabad: Polling commenced peacefully in 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations across the State on Wednesday.
As many as 52.17 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the elections. Voters queued up at several of the 8,191 polling centres early in the morning to cast their votes.
In a few places, voters arrived at the polling centres as early as 7 a.m., while women and senior citizens turned up in significant numbers to exercise their right to vote.
In all, 12,944 candidates are in the fray. Counting of votes will be taken up on Friday and the results will be declared thereafter.
The government has declared a paid holiday for employees working in the urban local bodies where elections are being held.
