She revealed that while the relationship was kept private for five years, she eventually became her daughter’s greatest ally, spending two years “pacifying” and convincing husband Shatrughan Sinha to accept the interfaith match. “I noticed her trying too hard to please us and doing household work just to make us happy,” Poonam recalled with a smile. “A mother can always sense when something is different.”
Poonam shared that seeing Sonakshi “screaming with joy” during her wedding registration was a turning point that washed away any lingering family hesitations. Despite initial rumors of a rift, the Sinha matriarch emphasized that Sonakshi has always been the “laadli” (darling) of the house, and her presence continues to bring a vibrant energy to their home.
While Poonam admitted to being emotional about her daughter moving out—joking that she cried until Sonakshi reminded her it was only a “25-minute drive from Juhu to Bandra”—she expressed immense pride in how Sonakshi handled the public scrutiny with grace. For the Sinha family, Sonakshi’s journey has not just been about a wedding, but about a “victory for love” that has brought them all closer together.
