New technology of postal department, now drone will deliver letters to your home instead of postman, know how it will work

New Delhi : The Postal Department has started a new project towards using drones to deliver letters in remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative aims to test the feasibility of delivering letters and goods via drones through a 'Proof of Concept' (PoC).

The Postal Department issued a statement in this regard on Tuesday, October 21, in which it has been said that if this experiment is successful, it will be implemented in other difficult and hilly areas also. An agreement has been signed with Sky Air Mobility for this initiative.

On October 21, 2024, the process of delivering letters through drones was started between Chaukham Post Office and Wakro Branch Post Office located in Namsai and Lohit districts of Arunachal Pradesh. On this occasion, a drone took off from Chaukham post office at 10:40 am and reached Wakro branch post office at 11:02 am. In the return journey, the drone left Wakro branch post office at 11:44 am and returned to Chaukham post office at 12:08 am. This distance is approximately 45 kilometers.

Till now, the time to deliver letters in hilly areas was around 2 to 2.5 hours, as letters were sent through state transport services buses. But with the use of drones this time has reduced to only 22 to 24 minutes. This faster delivery system will improve communication in rural areas and save time.

The Department of Posts has clarified that if the operation of this project is successful, then they will expand this technology to deliver letters and parcels through drones in other difficult geographical areas also. This step will not only increase the efficiency of the postal service but will also emerge as an environment-friendly option.
