Prashant Veer on Filling Jadeja’s Shoes in CSK

Prashant Veer, an all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh, has become the center of attraction for his amazing price of INR 14.20 crore by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The CSK, which has been known for its reliance on experienced players, has hugely invested in IPL 2026 auction, especially when the last season was not up to their expectations.
Besides the 20-year-old, CSK has also bought Rajasthan’s wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma for the same amount.
Prashant Veer on Taking Up Ravindra Jadeja’s Role for CSK in IPL 2026
Total, five franchises handed out the interest to tie the player, with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) extending the bidding war with CSK till INR 14 crore. Other teams after Veer were Mumbai Indians (MI), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
But the left-handed batsman is not going to let the huge franchise hype and a life-changing deal interfere with his priorities, particularly in the early phase of his career. It is worth mentioning that after trading away the franchise’s veteran Ravindra Jadeja along with Sam Curran and bringing Sanju Samson into their squad, CSK had to select a powerful left-arm-spin-bowling all-rounder in the mini-auction.
Nonetheless, when asked his opinion about possibly stepping into the shoes of one of India’s best all-rounders, Veer ruled out any such thoughts that could put him under pressure and instead, he stressed on staying focused at delivering match-winning performances for the team.
“I really enjoyed it. My expectations did not include this at all. But still, my main concern has to be the game by process of elimination and helping the team to get wins. They have shown trust in me, and I have to meet the expectations. If I let such thoughts in, I might feel that I am behind. I will do my best,” was the statement of the all-rounder to Sportstar.
Prashant Veer Continues to shine in Vijay Hazare trophy
After a superb performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the all-rounder has taken his fiery form through India’s domestic one-day tournament. On the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, he has taken three wickets against Hyderabad at an excellent economy of 4.70.
Earlier, Veer had taken nine wickets in that tournament and made 112 runs including three thrilling, not out innings in SMAT 2025. Besides, he had given a good performance in the Men’s Under-23 State A Trophy Elite. After seeing the excellence of Ayush Mhatre and Urvil Patel, young players like Veer and Kartik could be the change that CSK would need in the coming IPL 2026.
