Wife of forward Kai Havertz revealed that she and her unborn child have received death threats after Arsenal were defeated by Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup.

Sophia Havertz shared screenshots on Instagram of two disturbing messages she received after the match at the Emirates Stadium. One message hoped she suffered a miscarriage, while another sent a serious threat to “slaughter” her and the unborn child.

“That someone thinks it’s okay to write such things is so shocking to me… I hope you are deeply ashamed of yourselves.” Sophia wrote. “But please be more respectful. We are better than this…”

Havertz and Sophia, who have been together since 2018 and married in 2023, announced their pregnancy in November 2024.

British media reported that Arsenal has launched an investigation into the incident. The club are working with data technology company Signify to identify the individuals responsible for the threats. Once the culprits are identified, Arsenal plans to report the matter to the police and ensure the accounts are disabled on Instagram.

Havertz faced heavy criticism after a poor performance in the match, where Arsenal lost 3-5 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regular time. The German forward missed two clear chances and failed to convert his penalty in the shootout, which led to Arsenal’s elimination.

In a post-match interview, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta defended Havertz.

“I love Havertz and the players,” Arteta said. “I won’t judge them solely based on the result. We need to look at what we can improve and keep working.”

Havertz, 25, joined Arsenal in the summer of 2023 from Chelsea for a total fee of $82 million, earning $265,000 a week and wearing his signature number 29 jerrsey. Since his arrival, he has scored 26 goals in 78 games across all competitions, including 12 goals this season.

Before his time at Arsenal, Havertz rose to prominence at Bayer Leverkusen and later at Chelsea, where he scored the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final, helping the Blues secure the title.
