Premier League 2025-26 relegation scenarios: How can Tottenham, West Ham avoid the drop?

The Premier League 2025-26 season descends to its business end with a lot to fight for at the top as well as the bottom end of the table.

With three rounds remaining, the battle for the championship as well as the final relegation spot is still active and is set to go down to the wire.

West Ham United currently occupies the 18th spot with 36 points, but is just one point behind struggling Tottenham Hotspur. Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Leeds United can also mathematically still be relegated despite being at least six points clear of the relegation zone currently.

Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers have already been relegated from the top division.

Here is how each Premier League club battling relegation can avoid the drop into the Championship:

West Ham United

A demoralising 0-3 loss at the hands of Brentford ended West Ham United’s four-match unbeaten run in the top flight under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The side has three games left to avoid a potential drop into the second tier for the first time since 2010/11. But the route isn’t straightforward. The Hammers face title-chasing Arsenal at home, Newcastle United away, and finish their campaign with a contest against Leeds United at home.

Nine points from the three matches will not guarantee safety. The London-based club will also need Spurs to drop points in one of its remaining encounters to move above them in the table. Alternatively, a run of losses for Leeds, Palace or Forest will also suffice for the Hammers.

Tottenham Hotspur

Unlike West Ham, Spurs have their Premier League future in their own hands. Back-to-back wins over Wolves and Aston Villa stopped a 15-game winless run for the defending Europa League champion.

Roberto de Zerbi’s side can avoid relegation for the first time since 1976/77 if it wins all its remaining encounters in the league. Spurs will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea between two home games against Leeds and Everton. If the side drops points in the three-game run, it will have to hope West Ham does the same.

Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Leeds United can confirm their places in the next season’ Premier League with a solitary win in their next three games.
