Premier League: Manchester United’s home form worrisome for manager Ruben Amorim
New Delhi: Manchester United’s Old Trafford is not only one of the most prestigious football stadiums in the world, it has also historically been a fortress for the Red Devils. It’s been the theatre of dreams for those wearing the United jersey and a land of nightmares for those wearing anything else. However, that hasn’t quite been the case this season with the Red Devils struggling for form at their erstwhile fortress.
Hosting Bournemouth this weekend, Manchester United suffered another humiliating defeat as the hosts suffered a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of the Cherries. Dean Huijsen’s looping header in the first half put the home side on the back foot before quickfire goals from Justin Kluivert, who won and then scored a penalty, and Antoine Semenyo handed defeat to Ruben Amorim’s side.

With yet another incident of Manchester United conceding three goals at Old Trafford, this marks the fourth occasion this season that United have conceded four or more goals at home this season. The only team to have conceded more than three goals at home more than United, are bottom placed Southampton. This relegation-esque form must be a huge cause of concern for new manager Ruben Amorim, who is still adjusting to the demands of the Premier League.

This defeat to Bournemouth marks the first time in their history that Manchester United will spend Christmas in the bottom half of the Premier League table. They remain in 13th position, where they’ve been stuck for a while now and will head into the boxing day fixture against Wolves from the worst position they have ever been in. This horrific start for the club is in part due to their concerning home form, not that their away form has been any better.
Any team is expected to do well at home rather than away but that hasn’t been the case for Manchester United this season. In nine home games this season, Manchester United have picked up only 13 points, which is way behind the 22 points Brentford, the best home team has picked up this season. They’re also behind the likes of Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Bournemouth in the home form table.
In their nine home games, the club have only managed four wins, losing as many as well, including back-to-back home defeats against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth. In all of their home defeats this season, Manchester United have conceded three goals, making their aggregate score of 2-12 in those defeats. They lost 3-0 to Liverpool, Tottenham and Bournemouth and lost 3-2 to Nottingham Forest.
