Premier League Points Table: Manchester City destroy Ipswich to leap into top four
New Delhi: Sunday’s fixtures for matchday 22 in the Premier League saw some amazing performances in the top flight of English football. The weekend fixtures started with Nottingham Forest maintaining the six-point gap with Liverpool who have taken 50 points from their 21 games, after the Reds took their first win of 2025 in the Premier League. Winning 3-2 against bottom-placed Southampton, Nottingham are level on 44 points with Arsenal who on Saturday managed to play a draw.
At the City Ground, the Tricky Trees took an early lead in the game, going into the break with three goals. A late fight back from Southampton made little difference as the goal deficit was too far to bridge for the Saints. Owing to their 3-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford, Brighton and Hove Albion are now in the ninth place with back-to-back wins in the league. Brighton had gone into the break at 1-1 but the Seagulls took the lead at the mark of an hour from where the Red Devils couldn’t recover.
Everton’s 3-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur helps them stay four points clear of the relegation zone. The Toffees had gone into the break with a three-goal lead which their opponents could never go past despite late strikes. It is Manchester City who have now leapt into the Champions League zone tentatively after starting their weekend in sixth place after they stunned Ipswich Town with a 6-0 win at the Portman Road Stadium, going past Newcastle United on the basis of goal difference.
Phil Foden’s brace in the first half had derailed the Tractor Boys’ hopes of making a good display in front of their home crowd. Chelsea will now play their fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night to climb into the fourth place.
