Preparation for entry of new batting coach in Gautam Gambhir's coaching team, discussion on BCCI's plan

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to include new faces in the Gautam Gambhir-led squad to strengthen the coaching staff of the Indian men's cricket team. According to a Cricbuzz report, ongoing discussions between the BCCI and the team management indicate that the appointment of a batting coach is being considered.

Need to strengthen the coaching staff

Currently, the members of the Indian coaching staff include:

  1. Gautam Gambhir – Head Coach
  2. Morne Morkel – bowling coach
  3. Abhishek Nair – Assistant Coach
  4. Ryan ten Doeschate – assistant coach
  5. T. Dilip – Fielding coach

According to the report, the team management believes that the batting department needs a coach who can work individually with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and other batsmen.

Bharat Arun's comment: Lack of confidence in the coaching staff?

Former bowling coach of the Indian team, Bharat Arun recently gave a statement, in which he raised questions on the ability of the current coaching staff.

  • Bharat Arun said,
“There is no one in the current coaching staff who can tell Kohli about his mistakes.”
  • Giving the example of Ravi Shastri, he told how Shastri had explained to Kohli about his technical shortcomings.
    • “Kohli had problems with his batting in England. Shastri advised him to come outside the middle stump and crease, which benefited him in the form of four centuries in Australia.

Search for a special coach for legends like Kohli and Rohit

Bharat Arun also said:
“It is very important to have confidence and experience in the coaching staff to guide players like Kohli and Rohit.”

  • During the recent Australia tour, when Kohli was continuously getting out in the slips, it did not seem that the coaching staff asked him anything for technical improvement.

BCCI's possible plan

BCCI is now looking for a coach who can not only identify the technical flaws of the batsmen but can also work closely with them.

  • The names included in the discussion also include veteran players of domestic cricket.
  • At present, no final decision has been taken, but the selection process is ongoing.

What will the new batting coach bring?

  1. Technical Guidance: Improving the batsmen's technique of playing swing, bounce, and spin.
  2. Strategic Input: Formulating batting strategy in foreign tours and challenging conditions.
  3. Guidance under pressure: Providing mental strength to veteran players in big matches.
