Preparations to make the health insurance system more simple, transparent and reliable…
New Delhi. The Central Government has started preparations for major changes in the field of health insurance. Under this, Insurance Regulator IRDA has constituted an expert committee, which will examine in depth the entire structure of health insurance and give such suggestions so that the system can become more simple, transparent and reliable.
Its objective is to reduce the problems of people taking insurance and to make it accessible to more and more people. Experts say that the number of people taking health insurance in the country has increased in the last few years, but along with it the problems have also increased. People are troubled by the ever-increasing premiums, arbitrary billing by hospitals, delays in claims and complex policy terms.
Common people’s confidence has decreased
Many times, despite having insurance, the patient has to spend a huge amount from his own pocket. This is the reason why the trust of common people in the insurance system has decreased to some extent. In view of these problems, a proposal for comprehensive changes in the insurance structure is being prepared.
Arbitrary billing of hospitals is the biggest problem
Arbitrary billing of hospitals is the biggest problem. Different hospitals charge different prices for the treatment of the same disease. To remove this irregularity, the fee and tariff system of hospitals will be reviewed so that transparency can be brought in the treatment prices.
What will the committee do?
Will review every aspect related to health insurance. The committee will also look at how many people are being reached by health insurance, how is the claim settlement process, how to create new insurance plans, how to speed up resolution of people’s complaints. Apart from this, it will also suggest measures to remove fake claims, wrong billing and administrative deficiencies.
For this, efforts will be made to create better coordination between insurance companies and hospitals. The committee will also look at how to create better coordination between government health schemes and private insurance. This will give people more options and the benefits of insurance will reach more people. Also, it can be easy to move the policy from one company to another.
