New Delhi The Congress on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his statement on the West Asia situation in the Rajya Sabha, saying it was a “prepared text full of self-praise” for all that he claims to have accomplished in the last 11 years.
Congress general secretary and communication incharge Jairam Ramesh, said the prime minister spoke on West Asia in the Rajya Sabha for about 20 minutes on Tuesday afternoon.
“Like after his statement in the Lok Sabha yesterday, the Opposition was not allowed to seek any clarifications after he (Modi) read out his statement in the Rajya Sabha,” he said on X.
“As expected, it was a prepared text full of self-praise for all that he claims to have accomplished in the last 11 years,” the Congress leader added.
Ramesh said “There was also some hypocrisy when he called for cooperation from all states whose constitutional rights are continually being trampled upon; when he asked states to protect migrant workers after destroying MGNREGA which had been a lifeline for them during the Covid-19 pandemic; and when he called upon the states to implement the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana which is founded on the National Food Security Act, 2013 that he had opposed as CM.’
PM Modi had said the challenging global situation arising from the West Asia conflict is likely to endure, urging the nation to stay prepared and united, much like it did during the Covid pandemic.
“The impact of this war may be long-lasting, but I assure the people that the government is alert and the nation’s interests remain paramount,” Modi said in his speech in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Reaching out to farmers, the Prime Minister said the government has made necessary preparations to ensure an adequate supply of fertilisers and stands firmly with them to address any challenges.
During his address, Modi also emphasised that in such difficult times, a united message should emerge from India’s Parliament, asserting that peace and dialogue are the only way to resolve the conflict.
