Preparation to bring affordable electric SUV, middle class will be happy with Hyundai’s new EV

Hyundai India Launches: The demand for electric vehicles is increasing rapidly in India and now the competition to bring affordable electric cars for the common people has also intensified. In this series, South Korean auto company Hyundai has announced the launch of a new compact electric SUV for the Indian market.

The company had hinted at launching this new EV in 2025. Although its complete information has not been revealed yet, it is clear that this car will be designed and manufactured especially keeping the Indian customers in mind. Interestingly, its length may be less than 4 meters and it will compete directly with Tata Punch EV in the market.

This electric SUV will be made in India only

The new Hyundai compact EV will be manufactured in India only. The company will manufacture it at its Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu. Along with this, the company is planning to use local batteries in this car. It is being told that the battery supply for this can be taken from Exide Industries. This will not only reduce costs but will also strengthen the electric vehicle industry in India.

New EV may run on roads in 2027

According to reports, this new compact electric SUV has been codenamed HE1i and it can be launched on Indian roads by 2027. It is believed that this model may be inspired by the global Hyundai Inster EV.

It can be built on the company’s advanced scalable E-GMP platform, which supports 800V high-speed charging. Through this platform, the car is expected to have a driving range of more than 500 kilometers.

Two battery options and strong performance

In the global market, Hyundai Inster EV comes with two battery options 42kWh Standard Range and 49kWh Long Range. Their WLTP ranges are said to be around 300 km and 355 km respectively. The standard version has a 97bhp electric motor, while the long range model has a powerful 115bhp motor.

Latest technology can be found in features

According to the company, many modern features can be seen in the new compact EV. It may include Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) and an infotainment system with OTA (over-the-air) update support. Apart from this, features like dual screen setup, automatic climate control, in-car connectivity, 360-degree camera and blind-spot monitoring system are also expected to be provided.

Big plan for EV in India

Hyundai wants to create a strong local supply chain for electric vehicles in India. Under this, battery cells, e-powertrain parts and many high-tech components will be manufactured in collaboration with Indian suppliers.

The company has also announced that it will launch 26 new models in India by 2030. Under this plan, 4 new models will be introduced in the market by 2026, 8 models during 2027-2028 and 14 new vehicles between 2029-2030.
