President Draupadi Murmu met the President of Mauritania, discussed ways to further strengthen relations

Nouakchott: India and Mauritania on Thursday signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including on diplomatic training and visa waiver, during President Draupadi Murmu's visit to the African country. President Murmu met his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Ghazouani at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott on Thursday.

The two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen their relations. Murmu arrived here on Wednesday on the second leg of her visit to three countries in Africa. This is the first high-level visit by an Indian leader to the African country Mauritania after its independence in 1960.

The MoU was signed in the presence of President Murmu and Gajouni. Murmu addressed members of the Indian community in the capital of Mauritania on Wednesday.

Expressing her gratitude towards the host country, she said that I express my gratitude to the government and people of Mauritania for always supporting the Indian community.

Highlighting the prospects of India-Mauritania cooperation, President Murmu said that India can contribute to the development of Mauritania in various sectors including human resource development, agriculture, health, infrastructure, education, skills development and digital innovation.

Upon his arrival at Nouakchott-Omtounsi Airport, President Murmu was welcomed by his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Ghazouani.

The office said that he was formally welcomed. Mauritania has abundant natural resources which are important for India's growing industry.

Murmu arrived here after a successful visit to Algeria, where she held talks with her Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune to advance bilateral relations. Later she will visit Malawi on the last leg of her visit. (agency)
