President Droupadi Murmu condoles demise of senior political leader Shivraj Patil, recalls his long public service

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday condoled the demise of senior political leader Shivraj Patil, describing him as a prominent public figure who served the nation in several key constitutional and political roles.

In a message shared on X, the President said that with Shivraj Patil’s passing, the country has lost a leader who devoted a long public life to parliamentary democracy and governance. She noted that Patil held many important positions over the years, including those of Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Minister, Governor and a long-standing Member of Parliament.

“During his long public life, he held many important positions including those of Lok Sabha Speaker, Union Minister, Governor and longstanding Member of Parliament,” the President said, adding that his contributions would be remembered across party lines.

President Murmu also extended her heartfelt condolences to Shivraj Patil’s family, well-wishers and admirers, acknowledging the sense of loss felt by the political fraternity and the nation at large.

Shivraj Patil was widely regarded as an experienced parliamentarian and administrator, having played a significant role in India’s legislative and executive institutions over several decades.
