The BJP has responded by officially fact-checking this claim of TMC. “As per the official protocol for awarding the Bharat Ratna, other dignitaries remain seated while the President confers the insignia. The entire controversy started with the visit of President Draupadi Murmu to Darjeeling. While the President arrived to attend the 9th International Santhal Conference, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her ministers were not present. Expressing surprise at this, the President said, “Usually the Chief Minister is expected to welcome the President on his arrival. Mamata is like my younger sister, but I don’t understand why she is upset.” The President also commented on the lapses in preparations for the meeting and the apathy of the state government.
