President Trump warned – those who loot America should be prepared, no approval of Congress is required for tariffs
Washington, February 24. US President Donald Trump warned buyers on Monday that he does not need new approval from Congress to impose tariffs. Trump said that countries that have looted America for decades should now be prepared to face even higher tariffs. This statement of Donald Trump has come at a time when India has postponed the visit of its proposed trade delegation to Washington amid uncertainty arising after the Supreme Court repealed the tariffs imposed during his administration.
“As President, I do not need to go back to Congress for tariffs. They have already been approved in many forms, as recently confirmed by the ridiculous and poorly drafted Supreme Court decision,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. Donald Trump warned trading partners that any country that tries to play games with this ridiculous Supreme Court decision, especially those countries that have looted America for years and decades, will have to face much higher and tougher tariffs than the recently agreed tariffs.
There has been no official statement on this from the White House. “We continue to work behind the scenes with all our trading partners,” a senior administration official told IANS. This came when India has postponed the visit of its trade delegation to the United States. This decision was taken after the US Supreme Court canceled the tariffs as there was uncertainty over the tariff system.
The decision to postpone the visit was taken after consultations between Indian and US officials, according to a source familiar with the planning. At present, the new travel date of the delegation has not been decided, as the tariff situation is not clear after the court decision. The Indian delegation was to negotiate an interim trade agreement in Washington. The proposed arrangement was expected to reduce punitive tariffs on Indian exports and significantly increase American imports.
