Preußen Münster appoint Alois Schwartz as new head coach
After the dismissal of Alexander Ende, Münster have moved quickly to hire the experienced Alois Schwartz as head coach, who brings a wealth of Bundesliga 2 experience to LVM-Preussenstadion.
The former Hansa Rostock and Karlsruhe boss joins on a contract until the end of the season, and will be tasked with trying to keep Münster in Bundesliga 2 for another year.
Schwartz is set to be officially presented by his new club on Wednesday 25 March, with a friendly match against Havelse to follow the next day.
“Alois Schwartz is a very experienced coach who has already demonstrated his ability to provide valuable impetus to teams fighting relegation, thanks to his clear leadership and structured approach. He knows what it takes to maximize the chances of a successful season in this situation,” said Ole Kittner, Managing Director of Sport, Strategy and Communication.
Schwartz stated: “I am very much looking forward to this task and accepted it because I am convinced that together we can achieve the turnaround. The team has already shown that it has the mentality and the quality to compete in this league.”
Schwartz’s most recent head coach role came at Saarbrücken, where he had a 37.5 per cent win rate. He left the third division club in November last year following a disappointing start to the season.
The 58-year-old will now be tasked with steering Münster towards safety, with the club currently bottom of Bundesliga 2. They have won just one of their last 13 league matches, most recently losing to relegation rivals Magdeburg and Dynamo Dresden.

The 6-0 drubbing away at Dresden led to Alexander Ende’s dismissal as head coach. He oversaw 26 Bundesliga 2 games following his summer 2025 switch from Verl (W6, D8, L12). The 46-year-old also represented the club as a player.
Münster U23 coach Kieran Schulze-Marmeling was installed as Münster’s interim head coach for the recent visit of Magdeburg. He, alongside academy director Janis Hoenhövel, will assist Schwartz in his role as head coach.
