Prevent ginger from spoiling, these 3 kitchen hacks will keep it fresh for years.
News India Live, Digital Desk: ‘Ginger’, the life of Indian kitchen, not only enhances the taste of vegetables, but by adding it to tea and decoction, it also takes good care of our health. That is why, we often buy ginger in large quantities and bring it home. But, its big problem is that no matter how carefully we keep it in the fridge, within a few days it either starts drying up, shrinks or starts rotting. (It gets spoiled very quickly due to moisture or improper storage). To avoid this problem and keep your expensive ginger fresh for a longer time, we have brought some very easy and useful kitchen hacks for you. By adopting these methods, you will be able to keep your ginger as fresh as ever for weeks, or even months! Do these small things before storing ginger: It is very important to clean ginger thoroughly before storing it in any way. Because sometimes mud, dust or dirt sticks to the ginger, due to which it starts spoiling rapidly. First of all, wash the ginger with water under the tap. After this, wipe it thoroughly with a dry cloth or paper towel. There should not be even a little moisture left in ginger, because moisture creates fungus in it and causes it to rot. When the ginger is completely dry, then store it in these three ways: 1. The magic of paper towel and airtight container: This is the most straightforward and effective way to keep ginger fresh. Wrap the ginger that you have washed and dried well in a dry paper towel (kitchen roll). Now put this wrapped ginger in an airtight container (which does not allow air to pass through) or a zip-lock bag. Close the container tightly with a lid or use a zip-lock bag to remove all the air inside and seal it. Keep in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator. The paper towel absorbs any excess moisture present in the ginger, keeping it fresh for about 15 to 20 days. Being airtight, its freshness and fragrance also remains.2. Dip chopped or grated ginger in oil: If you use ginger daily and want to use it immediately, then this method is perfect for you. Peel the ginger thoroughly and cut it into small pieces, or grate it. Fill it in a clean glass jar (glass jar). Now add so much oil in the jar that the chopped ginger is completely submerged. (Any neutral oil like sunflower oil, mustard oil, or refined oil can be used). The oil forms a layer on the ginger, so that the ginger does not come in contact with air and does not get oxidized. Ginger kept in this way does not spoil for 2 to 3 weeks, and you can use it directly in any of your dishes.3. Freeze for months (about 4 to 6 months): The best way to keep ginger fresh for the longest time, about half a year, is to freeze it. Peel the ginger thoroughly, either cut it into small pieces, or grate it. Line a baking tray or a wide plate with butter paper. Spread chopped or grated ginger on it. Take care that the ginger pieces should not stick to each other. Place the tray in the freezer until the ginger pieces are completely frozen and harden. Once the ginger is frozen, transfer it to a freezer-safe container or a sturdy zip-lock bag. When you need to use it, simply take out as many pieces of ginger as needed from the freezer and add them directly to your sabzi, dal or tea without thawing. Frozen ginger will taste exactly like fresh ginger. Keep in mind, once you remove anything from the freezer and thaw it, you should not freeze it again, this will spoil its quality and nutrients. With these easy and effective methods, you can stop the wastage of ginger in your kitchen and enjoy fresh ginger whenever you want!
