Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the Holocaust victims at ‘Yad Vashem’, planted a tree in the name of his mother along with President Herzog
Jerusalem, 26 February. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached ‘Yad Vashem’ on Thursday, the second day of his visit to Israel. Payed tribute to the six million Jews killed during the Nazi regime and then planted ‘a tree in the name of mother’ with President Herzog in the Presidential Garden. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on ex-post called it a tribute to the victims of the genocide.
He wrote, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre, Yad Vashem. This was PM’s second visit to Yad Vashem. PM laid flowers and paid tribute to the Holocaust victims. PM also visited the heart-touching Book of Names Hall, which preserves the memory of millions of people who died during the Holocaust.”
According to the post, this memorial is a reminder of our collective resolve to stand against the cruelty and injustice of the past and build a better world. Prime Minister Modi’s next stop was to meet President Herzog. Both discussed further strengthening the India-Israel partnership.
According to the MEA post, the PM held meaningful discussions with the President on ways to further enhance cooperation in education, start-ups, innovation, tech and connectivity. After this, both of them planted a sapling in the Presidential Garden under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ initiative. The PM also invited President Herzog to visit India soon.
PM Modi’s two-day state visit ends on Thursday; Before this, the PMs of both the countries will also address the press. On Wednesday, the PM was received at the airport by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his wife Sara. After this, PM Modi also addressed the Israeli Parliament Knesset.
He became the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Israeli Parliament. He was also awarded the Parliament’s highest honor ‘Speaker of the Knesset Medal’. In his address, Netanyahu described PM Modi as his ‘true friend’ and ‘more than a friend but a brother’. Netanyahu also mentioned ‘Modi hug’ while describing the Indian Prime Minister as a great leader of the world.
