Prime Minister Modi presided over the last meeting of the Cabinet in the office located in South Block.

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday chaired the last meeting of the Union Cabinet at his South Block office in the British-era Secretariat building. Prime Minister Modi on Friday inaugurated the Seva Teerth Complex, where the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the National Security Council Secretariat and the Cabinet Secretariat will be located.

All the ministers were present in the cabinet meeting held at 4 pm. This was the last meeting of the Cabinet in the Prime Minister’s Office, located in a complex designed by British architect Herbert Baker in the early 1900s to meet the needs of the British Raj.

Earlier, on the occasion of shifting of the Prime Minister’s Office to Seva Tirtha, the Prime Minister signed some important files, including approval to launch ‘PM Relief Scheme’ to provide life-saving security to every citizen and doubling the number of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ to six crore. The move will mark the end of an era as all government departments will vacate North and South Block, which have been the center of power since 1921.

The government plans to convert these historical buildings into the ‘Yug Yugin Bharat National Museum’, which will be a world class museum showcasing India’s civilizational journey. The change took place on February 13, marking 95 years since New Delhi was formally inaugurated as the modern capital of India in 1931.

Modi garlanded the idol of Lord Ganesha at the PMO and took important decisions for the welfare of women, farmers, youth and weaker sections. Modi on Friday said the new buildings of the Prime Minister’s Office and the Central Secretariat are an important milestone in the country’s journey towards a developed India and reflect the government’s commitment towards citizen-centric governance and national progress.

The Prime Minister’s Office has been named ‘Seva Tirtha’, while the two buildings of the Central Secretariat will be called ‘Kartavya Bhawan’ 1 and 2.

“Seva Teerth, Dutta Bhawan 1 and 2 are an important milestone in India’s journey towards a developed India. They reflect our commitment towards citizen-centric governance and national progress,” he said at an event attended by Union ministers, senior bureaucrats and other central government officials.
