Prime Minister Modi will visit Israel on 25-26 February: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed on Monday that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Israel on a two-day official visit on 25 and 26 February. Netanyahu made this announcement while addressing a conference of presidents of major American Jewish organizations. In his address, he said that preparations are going on for an important speech in the Parliament and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to come here next week, which he described as an important diplomatic opportunity.

What did Netanyahu say on India-Israel relations?

Emphasizing the strength of India-Israel relations, Netanyahu said that there is deep and strong strategic cooperation between the two countries. Referring to India’s global position and strength, he said that India is an influential and rapidly emerging country with a population of 1.4 billion, which has an important place at the international level. He said that during this visit, both the countries will discuss further expanding cooperation in many important areas.

This visit of Prime Minister Modi is being considered an important step towards further strengthening the strategic, defense and technological partnership between the two countries. This will be Modi’s first visit to Israel in his third term. Earlier, he had made a historic visit to Israel in the year 2017, which took place on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. At that time both the countries had agreed to increase cooperation on important subjects like defence, cyber security, agriculture and combating terrorism.

Possibility of discussion on global political situations

The current security situation of West Asia, regional stability and global political situation are also likely to be discussed during this visit. Apart from this, both the countries can explore new opportunities to increase cooperation in the field of defense production, new technology and investment.

Economic and industrial cooperation between India and Israel has also strengthened in recent months. A Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) was signed during the visit of Israel’s Finance Minister to India in September, which will boost investment. At the same time, during the visit of Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal to Israel, significant progress was also made in the direction of Free Trade Agreement (FTA). In addition, the two countries have signed an important agreement to promote co-development and co-production in defense and technological sectors, which is expected to give new impetus to advanced technology sharing and industrial cooperation.
