Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agarwal unsold- The Week

Day 2 of the Indian Premier League Mega Auction began today with its share of surprises, as capped Indian players like Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agarwal and Shardul Thakur went unsold in the opening round.

New Zealand skipper and star batter Kane Williamson was yet another name that failed to find any takers. His compatriot Glenn Phillips, too, went unsold.

The players may be brought back into the auction in the later stages if the franchises express interest.

Among the capped batters who went under the hammer today, West Indian T20I captain Rovman Powell was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for his base price of Rs 1.5 crore. South African veteran Faf du Plessis, who played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru till last season, was sold to Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore.

Capped all-rounders at IPL Mega Auction

Among the capped all-rounders, India pacer Shardul Thakur, surprisingly went unsold, while in-form Washington Sundar was bought by Gujarat Titans for only Rs 3.2 crore.

England all-rounder, meanwhile, went back to his old club Chennai Super Kings for Rs 2.4 crore, after his last team Punjab Kings decided not to use the Right to Match card. But the Punjab franchise clinched an important deal, buying South African left-arm pacer and batter Marco Jansen for Rs 7 crore.

While New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell and WI ODI captain Shai Hope went unsold, Krunal Pandya was picked up by RCB for Rs 5.75 crore. Nitish Rana was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4.2 crore.
