Priya Rajvansh: Overnight superstar in just 7 films, live-in relationship with Chetan Anand and mysterious death

New Delhi: There are some actors in Hindi cinema who, despite doing very little work, make a place in the hearts of the audience forever with their acting and personality. One such artist was the late actress Priya Rajvansh, who did only seven films in her career, but left an indelible impression with the simplicity, seriousness and impact of her character in every film. He died on 27 March 2000, but his acting and life are still alive among film lovers.

The real name of Priya Rajvansh was Veera Sundar Singh. He was born on 30 December 1936 in Shimla. His father was a government official and the family had no connection with films. Priya completed her studies in Shimla and then went to London to take acting training. A photographer in London took some photographs of him and these photographs changed his fate. Famous director Chetan Anand, after seeing his pictures, gave him a chance to work in his film ‘Haqeeqat’. This film proved to be a hit as soon as it was released and Priya became a star overnight.

Priya did only seven films in her career, but her character in every film became home in the hearts of the audience. His major films include ‘Heer Ranjha’, ‘Hanste Zakhm’, ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’, ‘Kudrat’ and ‘Haathon Ki Lakireen’. In these films, he played different roles and showed the full magic of his acting in every character. This was the reason that despite his fewer films, his name became immortal in Indian cinema.

A unique aspect of Priya’s career was that she did most of the films under the direction of Chetan Anand. During this time, the closeness between her and Chetan Anand grew and this relationship gradually turned into love. Both of them never married, but were in a live-in relationship for a long time. However, this relationship affected his career as he did not work with other filmmakers and limited his film career.

After the death of Chetan Anand in 1997, Priya became completely alone and she separated herself from the world of acting. But on March 27, 2000, Priya Rajvansh was found dead in her own house. Investigation revealed that he was murdered. The police also arrested many people, but due to lack of evidence the case could never be proved. In this way, his death is still recorded as a mysterious and tragic incident in the history of Bollywood.

Priya Rajvansh’s life was not limited to films only. His acting, his relationships and his personality are still alive in the hearts of the audience. The simplicity of her films and her acting made her not only an actress but also a memorable personality of Hindi cinema. Even though she has done less films, Priya Rajvansh’s name and her contribution will always be indelible in the history of Indian cinema.
