Priyamani joins Golmaal 5, shoot begins in Mumbai

Mumbai: Actor Priyamani has reportedly joined the cast of Golmaal 5, the latest instalment of filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s popular comedy franchise. The development marks her reunion with Ajay Devgn after their collaboration in Maidaan.

According to a report by Variety India, the film’s first shooting schedule commenced on Monday, February 23, in Mumbai and is expected to continue for nearly a month. While Ajay Devgn is slated to join the sets on February 25, Priyamani has reportedly already begun filming her portions. However, details regarding her character in the ensemble comedy are being kept strictly under wraps.

A reunion after Maidaan

Priyamani and Ajay Devgn were last seen together in Maidaan, a sports drama based on the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. Their on-screen collaboration was appreciated for its emotional depth, and their reunion in a full-fledged commercial entertainer like Golmaal 5 adds a fresh dynamic to the franchise.

While Priyamani has built a diverse career spanning Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi cinema, her addition to the Golmaal universe signals a significant mainstream Hindi commercial outing. Known for her versatility, the National Award-winning actor is expected to bring a new energy to the film’s established comic ensemble.

Return of the core team

The Golmaal franchise remains one of Hindi cinema’s most commercially successful comedy series, celebrated for its ensemble-driven storytelling, slapstick humour and recurring characters. The fifth instalment will reportedly see the return of its core cast, including Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade.

Veteran performers Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar are also expected to reprise their popular roles, adding to the nostalgia factor that has consistently drawn audiences to theatres.

There have also been unconfirmed reports suggesting that Akshay Kumar may join the cast. However, the makers have not issued any official statement regarding this development.

Production gathers pace

The film’s production gains momentum just weeks after an alarming incident at Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence, where five rounds of bullets were reportedly fired. According to Mumbai Police officials, the Crime Branch investigation revealed that the vehicle allegedly used in the firing was sourced from Pune.

Authorities earlier stated that the accused, including one identified as Subham Lonkar, allegedly intended to create panic in the city. Investigators also disclosed that ₹40,000 was transferred to one of the arrested individuals, who was reportedly in contact with Lonkar through a messaging application. The matter remains under investigation, and no official link between the incident and the film’s production has been established.

Despite the unsettling episode, filming for Golmaal 5 has commenced as scheduled, reflecting the team’s commitment to keeping the project on track.

High expectations from the fifth instalment

The Golmaal series, which began in 2006, has delivered multiple box-office successes over the years, each instalment building on the brand’s loyal fan base. With its mix of physical comedy, quirky plotlines and recurring catchphrases, the franchise has remained a staple in the Hindi comedy genre.

The addition of Priyamani to the cast is expected to introduce a fresh narrative angle while retaining the core humour that audiences associate with the series. As shooting progresses in Mumbai, anticipation is already building around what surprises the fifth chapter might hold.

An official announcement detailing the full cast, storyline and release date is awaited. For now, the commencement of filming marks the first major step in bringing another chapter of the beloved comedy franchise to the big screen.
