The film is based on the incident of fire in Sabarmati Express train.

Had died. Apart from Vikrant Massey, Raashi Khanna and Riddhi Dogra are in the lead roles in 'The Sabarmati Report', released on 15 November.
Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at the time of the incident, which led to communal riots and the state police blamed a Muslim mob for setting fire to some coaches of the train. Many of the accused chargesheeted by the police were later convicted in courts. The incident had sparked major political controversy, as the inquiry commission set up by Congress ally and then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav had claimed that the fire was an accident. However, the Gujarat High Court quashed its findings and declared the commission unconstitutional.
